Brief Advice Training - Hospital and Health Services

About this course: This course is for health professionals working in a hospital or health service setting. It will equip you with the skills, confidence and knowledge to provide smoking and vaping cessation brief advice to patients.

Duration: Approx. 30 mins. 

Cost:

  • Course is free for VIC, SA and WA learners. 
  • A registration fee of $20 applies for other states and territories. Payment made via PayPal. 

Learning outcomes:

  • Describe smoking trends in Australia and identify communities that have higher smoking prevalence.
  • Examine the health effects of smoking and its impact on health outcomes.
  • Describe how to provide fast, simple and effective brief advice in a supportive, non-judgemental manner.
  • Recognise the importance of managing nicotine withdrawal in the inpatient setting.
  • Highlight the important role of multi-session behavioural interventions and referral pathways, including Quitline.
  • Identify what additional resources and supports are available to help your patients on their cessation journey.
